I am tying to put up a web site where users can post reviews for others to see. I think I know I need Apache, PHP, and MySQL installed for this, which I understand dreamhost can support. My question is: Do I install these programs on MY computer, or does Dreamhost already have these installed? Also, how do I find the directory in which my PHP programs need to be saved? Is this drectory on MY hard drive, or the web site server? Overall, is creating a site where users can submit reviews realistic (ie relatively easy), or do I need professional help? After checking out http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html (if that is the hosting provider you are referring to) you can setup a development environment on your own computer and transfer it to the server after it has been developed and tested if you want but it is not required. All those programs are running on the server (hosting computer). PHP files should run anywhere a webpage is located. You may have to change the owner of the file(s) and permissions in order for the file to be treated as an executable. Regarding the reality of coding the project yourself. Coding is alot of work. You can get one of those auto generators however my experience with those is less than useful. A Professional help costs money, sometimes alot of money.
