Buying Extra Services From Godaddy?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-11   Tags: , , , ,

I am planning on getting a domain name and web hosting from Godaddy.com, but as the options go further, there seems to be alot of other little extras, like more web space, emails, etc, that turns out to be alot of money at the end of payment page, and I’m not sure what i need or don’t need. What are the basics that I need for buying a domain name and web host? Need some help here.

They will nickle and dime you to death with useless extra services, both on domain registry and hosting. Keep your registration there, but get your hosting elsewhere. I use Dreamhost. Everything is included, there are no sell-ups. Godaddy has some funky proxy thing going on where if you do custom scripts you will eventually tear your hear out and switch to a different host later anyway. ∠°)

I highly recommend you check out lunarpages for hosting and domain registration. They are cheaper, you can get 12 months of hosting for around $50. comes with unlimited space and bandwidth.

All you need are the bare basics to start, a domain name and some web space to host your site.
As you get familiar with dealing with your own web site you can upgrade your account very easily if you find you need more services.
