Website hosting and domain name registration are two different things – if you want to change your website hosting, you’ll need to make changes to your name servers for your domain name. You probably have a separate control panel login for your domain name with whomever SBC registered your domain name with (I don’t believe they’re a registrar themselves). First thing you’ll want to do is either get your hands on the settings for your domain name so you can change settings, or more likely you’ll want to initiate transfer of your domain name to a different registrar (that’ll cost you unless the new hosting company you intend to use will register you for free as part of your hosting service).
Your best bet is to get your new hosting company to help you out with this process. They can tell you where your domain name is currently registered and help you fogure out how to get things changed over.
You need to read your contract with them. Did you buy you domain thru them as part of the hosting? It might have conditions you might need to meet.
Who is the registered owner o the domain? You need to get in contact with the registrar and take control of your domain.
