Lets say I have a hosting package with dreamhost and their dns is ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2 and ns3. What do I need to do in order to have ns1.mycurrentdomain.com, ,ns2 and 3 to forward. So that it looks like I have my own server instead of using dreamhost DNS? Is this possible or it’s just nonsense? Also how do I manage to actually get or have the right to have (dns) NS1 for my current domain?

In addition to what Collin indicates:
If you want to have your own DNS server you can. You’ll need a static IP address from your ISP to do so. Once you have a static IP address and a Domain Name Server online and operational, you could go to your Registrar and have the DNS records directed to your DNS server.
Register your domain name. The registrars usually have a facility to set up dns to point to any address, or for a forwarded domain.
