No, you need to pay a company to keep it registered with the DNS. There are many companies with prices up to about $35 year.
    Go with http://www.domaincityhosting.com
Domain name for just $1.99 with hosting plan.

The ‘middle man’ is the only feasable and cheap way you’ll be able to purchase it.
You will only actually own the rights for X amount of years though, it is more like leasing the rights to it than anything.
GoDaddy is fine, 123-reg is also good (i use these, as editting is quick and easy) most will be priced about the same
    hope this helps

With domains, you can buy them direct from the organisation that work with all domain names (ie for the UK it is Nominet), though they tend to charge about £120 a year for a domain like a .co.uk.
Instead, using a ‘middleman’ company like 1&1.co.uk or if abroad like Godaddy.com, which charge prices like £4 a year, which is far lower.
I’m not sure why it works like this, but I strongly recommend that you look at the prices with companies like 1&1, Godaddy.com, Heart Internet, Big Wet Fish Hosting and 123 Reg, which are all priced reasonably.

You must go through those websites because they are resellers and they buy the license of selling lots of domains, recovering the money selling lots of domains. For just a personal domain that’s not a good idea, unless you want to have thousands of personal domains ;) .
I recommend you domain.com, they are cheap and their control panel is handy.

Yes, you have to use a domain name registrar like Godaddy (which is the most popular registrar with over 35 million registered domains).
You can get the discounted price of $7.49 though, instead of the standard $9.99. For more info check: http://www.webhostingtable.com

Not really. You could always use the standard mail system to send them a cheque, but that doesn’t really count.
These days any company that offers hosting will also offer domain registration. I highly recommend 1&1 myself, they offer the best prices around (domain regisration is in fact free with their hosting plans).

You could use the “old-fashioned” way and mail it in (to GoDaddy, Network Solutions, or to your hosting service), but why bother? It’s faster to do it online, and you stand less of a chance of someone grabbing it from you.

Not online u have to download a program called blue voda but its not easy to use but there is a tutorial video on how to use it

Yes, yes you do, although there are many different companies that offer them!
