Is it possible to get a domain name from a company that does not offer hosting (like Yahoo) and later move to a hosting company like godaddy.com?
Right now, I do not know if I need hosting, but I would like to have the option for future.

Godaddy gives you the opportunity to purchase domain names without hosting. If you purchase a name from them you can later register and host the domain with them. Some hosts require that the domain name be registered within 90 of purchase. For example if you buy the domain from godaddy and host the domain with another. If you are ready to get started on your website, many hosts will register your domain as part of the package. I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly…
You may register your domain name wherever you want and you don’t have to host it with the same company from which you registered the domain name…
So yes you can register your domain name http://www.example.com on Yahoo and then move it to GoDaddy anytime you want.
But if you have something like myspace.com/something you won’t be able to move that to another company as that is not legaly YOUR domain name…
