In MY opinion it doesn’t matter as long as it supports MySQL and PHP, and also Perl may be of use. I, myself, use phpBB which is fairly easy to use as long as you understand how the permissions work. There is also a forum template called SMF (Simple Machines Forum) which is really easy to use and might suit you well. Powerboards or something like that allows you to make forums on there site and its easy to configure them and they make your forum under a subdomain.
Make sure there’s PHP MySQL and Perl.

If you are going to run forum site using phpbb or vbulletin at your own domain without any ads, then you can select BlueHost as your forum hosting plan. This service is superior with perfect server uptime (over the internet). BlueHost server is fast too, and it doesn’t cost you much, just $6.95/month.
They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. (One of my websites is a forum site)

I was a newbie a while back ,I have an excellent experience with Bluehost webhosting.I have called them several times for configuring my SQL database and some php stuff and every time they have solved my problems . Apart from that they also have a pretty straight foward control panel that I use daily.http://www.bluehost.com/track/bluehostwe…

Try http://www.hostmonster.com/track/kdiskco… , They are owned by BlueHost, however using their newer servers, Plus you get More MySQL databases, DO NOT Go with GoDaddy, especually for forums, they use remote MySQL, which slows the page
