I think that Dreamhost is much better. 1and1 has awful customer service. Price vise they’re pretty close, although you can use a promo code PLUS with Dreamhost during sign up and get the $50 discount +2 Free domain names. It’s a much better deal than similar 1and1 plans.

Honestly I don’t have any experience with Dreamhost. However as an experienced webmaster I tell 1and1 and also Godaddy are good places just for registering domain names, not web hosting services.
