How Do I Build My Own Web Store Without Getting Ripped Off?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-13   Tags: , , , ,

I’m trying to start my own online jewelry business but I have no clue what I’m doing. I opened a store at www.dkrocks.etsy.com (check it out if you want) but there is no traffic there. I realize that if I want this to work I need to get a site and my own domain name, but I don’t know where to go. I tried go daddy but I got snagged talking to some high pressureing sales guy. Can anyone give me advice on what to do?
I checked out http://www.hostmonster.com/ and it looks good to me. What do you think??

The best way to avoid disappointment or getting ripped off is by doing research prior to commitment. I would strongly encourage that you take a look at several hosting options. Hostmonster has a satisfactory ranking with the Better Business Bureau. http://utah.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?…
They may fit your needs. I would write down your expectations. What do you expect your site to look like? What features do you desire? How will you drive traffic to your site? After you write your expectations you can begin to compare. First compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. As you compare you will add to your expectations naturally. This process will ensure that you get the best fit for your need and help you to get the most value for your money. A successful web host will show you some examples of well built sites will independent traffic reports to back them up. If you would like to take a look at the web host that I use as one of your options you’ll find them at http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDrea… and an example of independent proof at http://proof.sitesell.com

First, of course, your going to need a domain. You can get some for free (best free one is 110mb.com), but otherwise you can get a domain for $10/month. Second, i recommend learning HTML, the language used to write webpages. Its pretty simply to learn, just buy a book at Wal-Mart or something on it.
Another, more recommended way for beginning businesses, is sell your jewelry on Ebay. Ebay is a great place for starting business, some people make a living off selling their things off Ebay. And, with a website and Ebay put together, you can channel lots of traffic to your website, a very important thing for business. You can look up guides on how to increase traffic on your website, and they should help you plenty.

    Try ebay and ecraters.
