How Do I Keep My Web Address But Switch My Site To A Free Hosting Site?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-10-21   Tags: , , , , ,

I have my own site, taraschnauzers.com that I pay yahoo for monthly. But I want to keep the address and switch to a free website hosting like godaddy, or tripod, etc.
Does anyone know how to do this and which hosting site is the easiest to navigate ?
Thanks a bunch!
Tara

Instead of going to a free site, you should switch to a cheaper / better service than Yahoo hosting.
Bluehost is probably the best, but Startlogic is offering a great deal (i think it’s less than $50 a year).

you can have another hosting company take over for you. find one with a cost that you can live with and have them contact whomever your site is registered with. try whois.com and enter your site name. if it is yahoo, they should be willing to give that information to you. but you still have to pay for registration renewals. unless you re-register with another registrar, but this could be tricky.

If you currently are a web subscriber, your current provider offers a homepage into which you can FTP your current webpage(s) [which can be authored/designed using Composer [an authoring tool which is free when using Netscape browser], NotePad, MSN Word, FrontPage, DreamWeaver, etc.] and use the homepage hosting services. In a sense, you are hosting a commercial webpage via the homepage link and incurring merely the monthly access of, say, AOL.com, etc. Nevertheless, should you want to link your current domain name to the homepage URL, you’ll need to use a third-party redirection service, i.e., mydomain.com [which is free] or simply direct your domain name registry, i.e., godaddy.com to forward your domain name [with masking] to the link it to your homepage URL. It’s that simple.
    Good luck!
