It is possible to get one, but:
1. It won’t be easy. You will have to refer people, complete offers, post on forums, etc.
2. There is no guarantee that you are able to renew your domain.
3. You have to be very comfortable exposing your personal information.
4. If you are under the age of 18, you are going to have a difficult time finding a free domain name. Most ways you can get a free domain names, it is best to do if you are 18 or over.
Domain Lagoon is probably your best bet, I’ve heard that people had no issues renewing their domains, and getting multiple domains, but you have to be comfortable exposing your personal information, and you do have to complete offers. Also, I wouldn’t reccommend Domain Lagoon if you are under the age of 18, you can try it, but I advise against it.
There is no easy way to get a free domain name. If it was easy to get a free domain name, then people wouldn’t spend the $$$ to buy their domains and hosting.

What you want is probably a website that you just sign up and you get a domain name in five seconds and you get to keep it forever…There is no such thing, and you really need to be realistic, before it’s too late
The truth is, there is just not going to be a person or company out there willing to be in millions of dollars of debt to give teenagers with little to none web design experience free domain names. It’s just not a worthy investment in my eyes, especially in this godawful economy.

Free domains do not exist because the company that is selling a domain (e.g. godaddy.com) has to pay VeriSign and ICANN to register your domain. If you really want your own domain I reccomend buying one at http://www.godaddy.com
There are a couple of alternatives as long as you don’t mind advertisement on your site. Microsoft Office Live Basics offers a free domain. The only catch is that it will include their logo and link to their service on your site. They are hoping to snag a large share of the market by offering a free domain, hosting and 500MB of storage. It will require a credit card to verify your age.
You can also visit http://www.dot.tk/ and register a free domain but it will end in .tk rather than .com.
You could also try a free Web hosting site like http://www.freewebs.com and then use http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ to get a free sub domain. It will redirect the URL to your site without a long difficult Web address.
