Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-02   Tags: , , ,

I just transfered the site from hostgator to site5. It is simple html/php/mysql with no pics on any of the pages except the listings. It takes forever to load up the page. Its not just my computer its happening all around the country. I contacted site5 and they said that there was nothing wrong. Any suggestions???

You might want to make sure you don’t have it setup to run any crazy queries on initial load. There are ways to optimize PHP as well, so you may just want to go over your code and make sure it’s not doing anything unnecessary (like a really long loop or something.)
If this first started when you switched hosts, then it might be that something in mysql is misconfigured (for instance, it may be looking for a URL that isn’t there any more, and waiting for X time before it gives up).

Reduce disk cache for web page to smaller size, e.g. 10MB. For MSIE 7 user, iexplore.exe -extoff, to skip built-in add-ons feature, and press Ctrl-F5-key to clear cache while refreshing the web page.

What’s the size of the page? Do you have any compression or caching enabled on the server?

    Defragment your computer
