Laymans guide to create a free/inexpensive website
1. You need a webspace at web hosting server.
Recommended :: GoDaddy http://www.godaddy.com
Free webhosting:: Awardspace,freeservers,netfirm…http://www.awardspace.com/http://www.freeservers.com/http://www.netfirms.com/
2. You need a Domain Name
like http://www.yourwebsite.com
Again Godaddy offers Domain names at lowest price available. You can get your website.info for as low as $ 0.99
Well,you can have free domain name like yourwebsite.awardspace.com with free webhosts. or you can redirect your paid domain towards free webhosts.
3. Web Designing
If you know Html +javascript+flash its a cakewalk, but if you are not equipped, there are loads of free web-publishing softwares available.
Here are a few for the layman:
Rapidwebsite

You can design a website by just creating a MS.Word file with same name of your buttons on webpage and they’ll contain all those texts.Besides, you can insert pics in .doc file too. If you are aware(remember first page should be INDEX)
When your website is done take it out of your TEMP folder in
Document settings>>User>>Local>>TEMP
OR
you can put your website directly by in built FTP on *rapid website*
a4desk

This one is a cool , free flash website maker that you can try
4.Next you need to upload your designed website files on webhost.
You can use any of the free FTP softwares like:
CuteFTP —-just punch in your domain name +user id+password to enter the server by simply connecting at http://FTP.http://www.cuteftp.com/
Now can put your website pages ..and you are done!
Note:: Always keep the folder structure of your designed website in your mind while loading it at server.
Cheers:)

Being a Webmaster is far more then spending the 8 dollars for the domain name and the 100 dollars a year for hosting.
It will take a lot of hard work and study to be able to produce a quality website. If you knew (x)HTML, CSS, JavaScript you would not have posted this question. Reason being you would be able to design and develop a web page or web site in a text editor as simple as notepad.
A good website is never done. It will take constant updating and work.
For anyone to say building a website is easy. I would have to wonder how many websites they have built and what the quality level of those sites was. I would also wonder what technologies they they implemented to build it.
I am also guessing that they believe computer programming and application development is easy as well. I say this due to the fact that many websites are designed using programming languages and custom written applications. Most of the larger web sites in the corporate world contain dynamically generated HTML or XHTML with data from other resources such as databases.
There are way too many people out there that believe they can build a web site without knowing how to hand code. They believe if they have a copy of FrontPage or Dreamweaver that makes them a webmaster.
There is far more to web design and development then those people can even imagine. At a minimum to design a decent website you should know HTML, CSS, JavaScript and probably a DBMS as well such as MySQL. Knowing other languages such as PHP, C#, VB, Perl, Ruby will only improve your programming and web design toolbox as well.
One of the things that bothers me the most is that every graphics designer I have ever met advertises that they build websites. I know very few that can claim they are proficient in any programming language.
Hope that helps
Kevin
