How Do I Stop Spammers From Using My Domain Name?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-09   Tags: , , , , ,

I’ve got a web site with a great domain name but spammers have started using my domain name extension in their junk email. Basically they make up an email address using my domain name then send it out to their list.
Now when I send a legitimate email, spam programs are deleting my emails as spam. How do I stop the spammers?

A good place to look for info regarding this is:http://www.openspf.org/
Sender Policy Framework has been around for quite some time and more people find themselves in similar circumstances where headers are either forged to appear to be from your domain or they actually may even be using your mail server as an open relay.
Check out if your mail server is an open relay first:http://www.abuse.net/relay.html
If your not an open relay then you should be able to handle adding a TXT (text record) to your DNS records and thus blocking anything from the domain which you specify.
If you have an open relay – there is the problem and depending on what SMTP or POP service you have running, you will need to refer to the help files on how to correct the problem.
Recently a lot of people have started using spam blacklists to handle the rise of spammers and this is also worth looking into.
Some useful network discovery tools are available for you to help track down your network issues by pointing your web browser at the following location and scrolling down the page until you see the widgets for use:http://www.dnsstuff.com/

I guess you would need to understand what you said before I can! Used your extension? I didnt know you could own a domain name extension! Are you talkin sub domain name? If so, I would be more inclined to believe your email program has a mailer worm!
