So I was going to register a domain name with GoDaddy, which sounds simple enough until I got to the checkout page.
This is an example of the checkout page as provided by an information site: http://z.about.com/d/webdesign/1/0/y/U/1/godaddy6.png
The thing that confused me is where it said “If you are hosting these domains elsewhere, click here to set nameservers.”
Right now, I do plan to find a different web hosting service (linux-based) that allows you to add both a blog and a forum.
The problem is that I haven’t purchased any web hosting, so how would I know the nameservers. I’m lost as to what to do.
Do I just park the domain at GoDaddy, purchase web hosting, and change the nameservers per the web host’s instructions later?
Please help if you’ve gone through this process.

Keep the nameservers parked until you purchase your webhosting. You can change the nameservers through GoDaddy at any time.
Without going into all the details about how to do it online, the easiest way would be to call them. GoDaddy’s number is (480)505-8877.
