How Does Backordering A Domain Name Work?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-02   Tags: , , , ,

I entered a domain name to order, and it said it was already in use but that for $18.99 I could backorder it. Is that a yearly fee or one time fee until the name becomes available? Also, should I contact the current owner directly since their registration info is listed publicly and ask if they want to selll it to me? What would be the procedure to do that? Thanks!

    Go to http://www.pool.com
There’s no cost to place a backorder. If the domain becomes available, they try to get it for you. If they get it, that’s when you get charged.

    Hello,
Backorder is just a testing a luck system.
When you put backorder of domain the company taking backorder simply try to register it from their network. Remeber if many people are trying to get the same domain then there is just a small luck of getting domains.
Backorder doesnt means that you will get the domain.

What if that domain becomes available in 10 years? If you have business name as a trademark and somebody using domain with same name you can get it, if not i advise buy another one. Does not really matter till you keep it simple and memorable.

Backorder? Sounds like a scam to me. A domain name is either available or it isn’t.
You need to go to an established entity like NetworkSolutions or GoDaddy to get a domain name.
