How Does Godaddy Work?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-08   Tags: , ,

I’m thinking about signing up for a website through GoDaddy. After you sign up, how do you upload to your webspace? Do they provide you with an FTP client, or do you direct-upload through something like Frontpage?

You can enter your own html but you’ll need hosting too. All a domain name is the web site address. It doesn’t necessarily include space to store the html files. However, you can point the domain name to a free hosting service.

Warning! Don’t sign up for Godaddy!!!
Dear friend, as I have heard on different forums some clients had problems with Godaddy. Take into consideration that Godaddy is not a full-featured service.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime. They offer an installing service called “Fantastico”. By using this service, you can easily create your own forum, photo gallery, shopping carts etc. They also offer “Free Site Builder” that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any creating website programs.
You can go there through the address below:
    http://bluehost-service.atspace.com
On mentioned website Home Page, there is a table which compares BlueHost & Godaddy services with each other. Try to take a look at that table to figure out the deep differences of these two services.
    ******IMPORTANT*******
    * This service is awarded as the best Web Host 2008.
    * If you sign up for this service you will have $100 credits to advertise your created website with google & yahoo search engines for free!
    * If you are beginner and don’t exactly know what technical features you need for setting up your website, I recommend you BlueHost as a full-featured service which fulfills all your requirements.

    Good Luck!

GoDaddy doesn’t host your site, they are for domain names only

Techman2 is incorrect, GoDaddy offer a broad range of hosting services in addition to domain registration.
As clovisj says, you’ll need webspace along with a domain to have a website. GoDaddy offer free hosting with a domain, but that will have ads across the top, so not recommended. You’ll have FTP access to upload files (from frontpage or whatever you use to create them), or you’ll be able to use a web-page based file manager to upload through your browser via GoDaddy’s control panel.

A lot of people hate GoDaddy services, but I’ve honestly had no problems with them. I don’t host all my (30+) site with them because some require very specific server stuff, but those I do have not seen any more problems than the ones I have on Bluehost and JaguarPC. Dreamhost, now they have caused me some pain, but that’s another story.

If it helps, here’s some discount codes for GoDaddy for you. Use them in your shopping cart just before you complete checkout:
MTECH8 for 10% off your order
    MTECH9 for 20% off $50 or more
MTECH10 for 30% off .com domains (and it works on renewals)
They don’t expire till July 2010 and have no limitations on how much they can be used
