I have a godaddy IIS7 host account, but I’m totally new to IIS, so I just wanted basic information of how it works.
-I thought w/ godaddy, you FTP files onto the site. If this is the case, how does installing IIS on Vista come into play? Are the files housed on your local computer or godaddy’s server?
-Also, how does the server work? If a web app uses a SQL database, is the database on my machine or online? If on my machine, will the database be accessed/updated simultaneously? If so, what if my Internet goes down? Will my site go down as well?
Sorry for all the basic questions–just trying to grasp how this all works.
Thanks!

All that IIS means, when selecting a hosting account, is that it is hosting on a Windows Server platform instead of Linux. All of the files, databases, etc are still stored on the hosting server (at GoDaddy). You won’t really notice any difference in FTPing, etc. as it, in essence, feels the same as regular linux hosting. The only difference will be if you use scripts. Scripts require a slightly different syntax sometimes when on a Windows server.
