If you don’t want to build a site – here are a couple of suggestions:
1) Park the domain – a lot of domain registrars and hosts offer this facility. They put ads on the domain and give you a cut of the proceeds. Because they are volume users they get good prices from the advertisers.
2) Use your hosts “build a site” facility to put up a simple one/two page site with some info and an affiliate link to it. As you answer questions in forums – put this link on the bottom. Write a couple of articles with the link in your box. Doesn’t take much work but it may earn money, but it is letting the search engines know you are there and building up your listing. I have a number of sites that I do a soft lauch like this on.
3) If you do not want the domain for ever, offer to auction it off with a high reserve price – if it goes it goes for a profit.
4) Redirect the domain to another of your sites.

Hmmm, without knowing what your domain is, this is somewhat difficult to answer. However, generally speaking… your domain name should be focused and targeted to the product, service, or information which you’re promoting.
Since you’re not ready to build big sites, you can still profit from your domain name by submitting useful articles and blogging on your particular niche. Later, when you decide to build web sites, you can then point readers of your articles and blogs to your domain name for more information, services, and products.
“Mark A” gave good advice because the advice boils down to Namebranding! You need to brand your domain name as the “goto” source of valuable and useful information concerning the product, service or information which you’re promoting.
“xj t” also gave good advice as far as parking a domain name and profitting from just the name alone. One of the best places I know of personally to park and profit from your domain name is at the source below.

I came across Adsense. Its free to do. I started it while I had my nine to five job and worked on a few blogs and then started websites as time went by. Now I stopped my nine to five and work on this from home. It takes minimal effort on my part. I learn everything I can about websites and promotion and put it in practice. Things to consider: The domain name should reflect the products and/or services you are promoting. Or what type of products/services would you be interested in selling? If you have a hobby that you makes things, would you sell it online?
What type of market would buy your products/services? You must identify your market, then target to your market. Promote to them.
If your not ready to build some webpages yet, you can sign-up with an online business that will provide you with pre-made web pages to promote your business with. Then you can use your domain name later to build your website based on the business opportunity you are promoting.
There are many ways to make money online. Explore the various methods of doing it. Pick one. Then learn as much as you can about that particular method of making money online. Being new, you will have a learning curve that will take you some time before you really start to understand the concepts and tools used in the internet marketing business.
Just be persistant. Everday when you wake up, say to yourself, “what can I do to increase the value of my self to others, or how can I increase my business.” Something like that anyway.
