I know they have a “getting started” page but it sucks and all i get are more questions from it. I have Ubuntu and Firefox. so far ive installed “Bluefish” (html editor) FTP from firefox. I think this will work okay right ? maybe i could just use a website builder just to get the site up quickly. if i use templates would I have complete SEO control ? My only exp. is using a free website builder from brinkster and i need to figure the best possible way i can create a interactive site with a “Build your own” cowboy rhinestone shirts. so there would be a top a bottom, the “cut” which joins them and special extras like flashy embellishments, rhinestone designs etc..the person can choose from different fabrics and then see what it will look like all together. Would i be best to use flash for this ? where should i get something like that ? how advanced is it to do a site with this capability ? how should i do it ? Flash ? javascript ? What about Joomla ? could this help me in any real way ?

You’re asking excellent questions, but the variety and breadth of your questions suggests one solution: You need to hire a professional developer. The cost of doing so will be a lot less than the cost of the time you’ll spend trying to learn the programming yourself, not to mention the frustration you’ll experience along the way.
Ecommerce sites don’t get built overnight, and if you’re wanting a “build your own” tool as part of the user experience, you’re going well beyond the basics.
I’m not a developer anymore (I do marketing), but I used to be. And I’ve seen all kinds of people with ideas (like you) try to save some money and do it themselves, and end up spending more time to create something that’s inferior to what a professional would’ve done in shorter time.
If you’re serious about this idea and about making money online, hire a professional.
