I Had A Company Register My Domain Name And Make Me A Website And They Went Out Of Business. How Do I Get It?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-09-14   Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I had a company register my domain name and make me a website and they went out of business. Now I want to get the domain name back and make and maintain the website myself. Does anyone know the process I have to go through to get it? The domain name is www.mylastnameconstruction.com So I shouldn’t have any trouble with that part…
thanks!

Is that the actual domain name? If so it’s not registered. But I assume you mean construction.com.
If you do a whois lookup you can find the registered owner of the domain, which should be in your name, unless it’s registered by proxy for privacy reasons. Then the only thing you would need to do is get a hosting company, unless you have the resources to host your own domain, and set it up, change your DNS information, domain registrar, etc.
Any hosting company you choose should be able to help you out with this.
