I Just Bought A Domain, Now What?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-11-24   Tags: , , ,

I went on godaddy.com and registered a domain. I didn’t get the hosting because I have hosting from my school.
I know I can make my domain redirect to my school page, but I was wondering if I can host it on my school page but have the the browser address actually appear as mynewdomain.com/index, instead of schooldomain.com/index
Any help appreciated!

Best to buy your own hosting as the hosting your school has is the main domain name. Waste of a good domain name redirecting to your pages on the school’s site.

That depends if your school lets you redirect your site name to the godaddy.com domain name. Go to where you made your site, and try to find settings for it, then look for somewhere, where it says redirect link. That’s where you would put in your new link from godaddy.com Hope that helps.

You’re best off getting a full hosting account, you can get one a number of places for less than your domain registration costs. That way you’re not dependent on your school and have more control over your hosting.
