The guy above me, you're simply wrong. Buying a domain name does not get you free hosting. Most of the time, it's the other way around. When you pay for hosting, you get one free domain. The answer to your question is that you need both, a web host and a domain name. However, you still need to have a website made in which you would get some free templates or hire a web designer.

On the domain/hosting issue
many hosts including Godaddy will give you free hosting with domain purchase
BUT - it is very limited in size and options and will usually include advertising
Most hosting packages (if you are buying a year or more upfront) will throw in a domain, this is not usually true if you pay month to month
I actually suggest GoDaddy or Hostgator - there are a good amount of horror stories about GoDaddy hosting but I like them myself as i think they have great customer service
right now with coupon code "green' you can get the first month of hosting for a pennyhttp://tiny.cc/h0stgator
You can use any website that adsense approves regardless of who hosts it.
some aff marketing/im stuffhttp://hubpages.com/_1il86ml074v1s/hub/P...http://hubpages.com/_method/hub/Post-Hub...

Buying a domain will give you only the domain. If you don't have a website on a web server to direct it to it's useless.
In order to have a fully working website you need to buy a domain (from GoDaddy or anywhere else), buy web hosting (there's tons of cheap web hosts, I use Hosting Zoom), and need to design a website. Some companies offer web builders that don't require HTML knowledge, but most do not.
You need to have a fully working website before signing up for Google AdSense. They review every website before allowing you to use their service. It doesn't matter who hosts you or what your domain is, as long as you abide by their content rules you can use AdSense.
