If My Domain Name Is Blacklisted How Long Does It Take To Be Out Of The Blacklist?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-10-09   Tags: , , , , , ,

My domain name was blacklisted a few months back for spamming. This was because of some users (who we didnt verify before sending the emails) reporting us as spammers. This mistake has cost us a lot and we have not used that domain name since then.
What I would like to know is that is it worth it to retain the domain name (as I need to renew it now) and how long does it take for it be be free from the blacklist.

    Hi,
Yes, this is an important stage.
You HAVE to retain the domain name. There is NO point in orphaning it at this stage.
As regards the spamming, FIRST contact the sys admin of ur hosting provider. They would certainly have some SPAM policies and explain them the issue and the losses you had incurred. If it is a professional hosted services provider, I’m sure they will consider this issue with responsibility & high priority. It would take, say, 1 month remove yourself from the black-list.
If your hosting company doesn’t seem to help, NEVER MIND. Its time to switch your service provider.
    My suggestions:
    (1) http://www.melbourneit.com — But slightly costlier
    (2) http://www.hostjack.co.uk — Comparitively better
In anyway, your problem must be sorted out in 30 days from now (maximum) and please do RETAIN your domain name.

Firstly, you should understand the fact that this is not your domain name oriented issue it is an ip oriented issue. Normally SPAM databases blacklist only the ips not the domain names. So you should not be facing any issue in renewing the domain name, contact your registrar and go ahead with the domain renewal process.
Now coming to the blacklist part the first thing you need to do is check with your host whether they have suspended your account for this reasons, if it is active then there is no problem with your host. Normally, the mails are be sent through a mail server which has it’s own dedicated ip. In this case if you are marked as spammer then your mail server (hosting provider’s mail server) is marked as SPAM IP. So, your hosting providers need to contact them for this one. But, they will verify with you first before proceeding.
So, first contact your hosting providers for details and do what they ask you to do.

Was it blacklisted because it was sharing an IP with another web site that was spamming or were you the one that was spamming? If it was another web site, just change hosts so that your ip changes.
