for a few months now i’ve been working on a website. i have the webhost & domain name, the layouts made, the articles written, and everything uploaded to dreamweaver. i hear i’m supposed to have a local root folder? where everything is in one folder and there should be a separate images folder in that folder, that’s done too. but now what?
my host is hostmonster, i’ve browsed around and read that i have to upload my site through an ftp thing? (i have no idea what that even is) i also read that my web host should have given me a name when i signed up. and that i should use the public_html one. or something like that, but i don’t quite understand because on my ftp accounts all i find are ones that list “public_ftp” or “public_html/my name” i’m so confused! all i did was register a domain name and get it confirmed. nothing else so i don’t know what to do next, i need help!
any help on how to upload my files to my website?

use FTP UI like cuteftp or smartftp which are free to use.
Use your credentials that must be given by Hostmonster in your email with which you have registered.
Now Log in inside your hosting account.
There you have to make the first page that has to be uplaoded as index.html
i mean when user types http://www.yourwebsite.com the first page which uploads is index.html
rest of the pages and images and flash files can be kept anywhere on FTP but you need to refer link them properly in index.html and other web pages.
genrally
./abc.jpg means current directory
../abc.jpg means one directory above.
like that you can put your links guess you would have already done it in dreamweavor or so. In your case just drag index, html inside your account.
hope this will help
cheers:)
May be you can contact a web developer live at website like http://definitivelab.com/ ,etc to help you out.
What country are you from ? If UK I might be able to call you up to tell you how it works
