Hello, I was wondering if a domain name will really generate more traffic than a subdomain. Does any one know?

In some cases yes, most people would perfer to just have to type in a normal domain, instead of random different things, i host a LAN party every summer and i found that our. More people would rather go to a http://www.something.com than a http://www.something.something.com. You just have to decide if it is worth paying about $10 a year for a very basic domain, but ones with support and a lot of space can become costly.

Having your own domain is better for branding. How much easier is it to tell someone to visit iamawesome.com than freewebsites.com/iamawsome or iamawesome.freewebsites.com
It’s more of the ease of sharing. If you’re planning to be very big at all it is worth investing in your own domain. They’re cheap anyways – like $8 a year.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
