I’ve done some serious digging for a good hosting site for some time. godaddy.com has been my top choice simply because it is most recommended, and it best fit the needs of what I want to do? Would bluehost be any good for my needs or should I stick with godaddy. I’ve calculated that I would have to pay $150 up front, plus $65 monthly with godaddy, compared to $6.95 plus a merchant account w/ bluehost. I’m simply trying to figure out what’s the catch with bluehost.

Bluehost is pretty good all around host.
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
They include easy, one click install of these E-Commerce solutions:
ZenCart
ZenCart truly is the art of e-commerce; a free, user-friendly, open source shopping cart system. The software is being developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think e-commerce could be and should be done differently.
osCommerce
osCommerce is an online shop e-commerce solution that offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features that allow online stores to be setup fairly quickly with ease. It is an e-commerce framework solution that not only remains easy to setup and maintain, but also makes it easier for store administrators to present their stores to their customers with their own unique requirements.
CubeCart
CubeCart is an eCommerce script written with PHP & MySQL. 100% template driven, XHTML & CSS valid, plug and play shipping/gateway/affiliate modules, tax by state/zone or country, multi currency support, email marketing, inventory stock control, sell digital & tangible goods and more.
Bluehost is cheaper because the ecommerce features that are “included” are FREE for anyone that you could download from their websites, security is also not really a secure SSL certificate.Your’e better off to go with a SECURE web host that offers a better ecommerce plan.I use 1and1 for my hosting and have never had a problem(4+ years with them).
Heres a link to compare pricing and features.http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=6899718
First take a look at: http://www.bluehost.com/track/advertisem...
Then refer to: http://www.threehosts.com/business
There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online. By using each of them, everything you need for your business website is provided in one eCommerce Hosting Package.
Good Luck!
It sounds quite expensive. Here’s a suggestion for you, start it on free hosting http://www.yiphee.co.cc. It’s a powerful fast free hosting account with a website builder or ecommerce ’shops’ or forums etc to choose from. Or you can upload your own, in fact it’s practically the same as paid hosting with 10 add on and 10 sub domains and 10 databases. (Mysql, PHP).
As your business progresses you may need to upgrade, and this is quite cheap and easy to transfer, it would cost you about 3 dollars a month upwards, depending on what you wanted. There are two or three commercesites in the fantastico installer within your control panel.
When choosing a web host it’s of course important to consider the cost (some hosting can be very expensive) but here are some other important things you should take into consideration too:
Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.
Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges.
Uptime: There’s no point in having a website if people can’t see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?
Number of websites allowed: If you’re looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this?
Support: If you have any problems you need to be able to contact your web host quickly and easily to get the problem sorted.
I have used Hostgator as my web host for over two years now and have been very very impressed with them. Firstly they’re very cheap but still give me more web hosting space and bandwidth than I’ll ever need, the ability to host unlimited websites, a 99.9% uptime guarantee and great customer support.
