Is It Possible To Buy A Domain Name Outright Instead Of Just “register” It Per Year?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-08-19   Tags: , , , , , , ,

I don’t want to pay a monthly lease for a domain name…can I just buy it, or does keeping it registered with the domain name service itself cost money?

Most domain names I find that you rent are on a yearly basis.
    Which is pretty good.

Domain names must be registered on a regular basis with ICANN. This is not something that you can get around paying. However, you don’t have to pay it monthly. Many domain registration services allow you to pay for more than one year at a time, and then they take care of the ICANN registration for you. If you choose this option, make sure you are using a reputable company or you may find that your domain name has been released.

Don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($9.99). They offer free extras with every domain name:
    Quick Blogcast
    Hosting with Web site builder
    Personalized Email Account
Starter Web Page For Sale/ Parked Page
    Domain Forwarding
    Domain Masking
    100-Pack Email Forwarding
    Total DNS Control
    Change of Registration
    Status Alerts
    Domain Locking

To do that, you would have to file for your registrar lisence, which I doubt is going to happen because they’re very expensive. :P So no. My favorite registrar is Dynadot.com, which has very good deals on single years, and up to 5 year registration. Good luck. :)

No. I think you have to register it and pay yearly or whatever. This I think is to stop domain names being eaten up by advertising companies.
