You need to have a domain name of your choice and then make email accounts by going to its advanced settings.
Fortunately free domain exists.

Instead of katie@hotmail. com make it katie@whateveriwant.com ? Is this what you are asking? No, you cannot have it for free because you need to pay for that “whatever…”
BUT, there’s a place, where you can have a free email (like Hotmail or Yahoo) and they have many choices of what goes after the @ sign.
The place is http://www.mail.com/
When you make a new account there, you have MANY choices what goes after the @ sign.

You would need to own whateveriwant.com . Then you can go to http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group… and click the blue “Get Started” button. The process is pretty straight forward, and it’s completely free (I have my own email address with them).
If you haven’t yet bought whateveriwant.com but you want custom email, go to http://smartdots.com and register whateveryouwant.net.tc. Then they will let you have example@whateveryouwant.net.tc. And that’s also free.
