I recommend either Godaddy Economy or the Deluxe plan:http://www.hosttell.com/godaddy/
(prices from $4.74/month – $6.99/month)
Price of a discounted domain with any hosting plan is $2.19
or Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html
Their standard price is $9.95/month ($119.40/year)
but you can use the promo code PLUS and get
$50 discount +2 Free domain names.
Disk space: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
2 Free domain names
Unlimited domains and subdomains
Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)
Godaddy is a reputable, and relatively inexpensive registrar when compared with some of the other ones out there.
As for hosting, it depends on what you want to do with the site, your disk space and bandwidth requirements, and if you will require any additional features. But if you’re looking for something basic, or something inexpensive to play with until you can increase your knowledge, then I would recommend picking up a hosting package from an auction on ebay. It won’t be a major committment, and most allow you to pay monthly, which means you will be able to control the cost without paying too much up front. I’ve seen packages around the 10 dollar mark for a month of hosting though there are probably cheaper ones available as well.
So it will cost you @10 bucks to register a domain for a year, and another 10 bucks or so per month of hosting = $20 committment for the first month and @$10 each month thereafter.
Hope this helps.
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

Finding a Good Domain:
Try nameboy.com. You can type ina keyword and the site will show you domains avaliable which relate to your keyword. It is pretty neat.
Buying a Domain & Hosting:
Route 1: Domains are registered for a year at a time. To purchase a domain name a person goes to a domain register like GoDaddy.com, types in the name they want, if it is avaliable.. you can purchase it for around $10/year.
After you purchase the domain, you will need to host the domain, which is around $8-$10 a month for shared hosting.
This is the more expensive route and the route which require more ramp up time faster. The good news is both the domain register company and the hosting company normally is more than happy to help you through any process. I personally use GoDaddy.com for domain purchases and HostGator.com for domain hosting, both are very helpful.
Route 2: I would recommend starting out with blogger.com or wordpress.org. Both are very powerful blogging type sites with many options. Also, both sites also will teach you much needed steps to be able to maintain and manage a real domain.
Once you have an established blog with either of the two, you can then purchase a domain for around $10 per year and run it through blogger.com or wordpress.org for free. This option will save you the monthly hosting fee which is around $10 a month. Both sites have detailed information on how to run your blog through your domain.
If you have additional questions feel free to contact me as I own a domain company and enjoy helping others.
