Next Step To Set Up Internet Site?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2010-01-20   Tags: , , ,

I purchased a domain name from godaddy.com for my internet site and I have a HTML editor program. What do I do next to put my site on the internet? I have no clue. I have no problem with the designing part, I just don’t know how to upload it. Thanks

Okay there are three things you need to consider:
    (1) The website content. You can always do it yourself using FrontPage or Expression which is fine for a personal website however unless you’ve got a strong design background I would recommend the professionals for a corporate website.
    (2) The domain name. Sounds like you’ve got this sussed.
    (3) The webhost. I personally use Parcom. Their service is second to none.
Once you’ve set up your webhost account, you will probably need to do the following:
    - Log onto http://www.godaddy.com and point your domain towards your webhosts DNS Servers.
    - Wait until you are able to ping your domain name and it resolves to your new webserver.
    - Upload your content to the webhost via FTP.
    - Test it.
I actually published a new website of my own yesterday and managed to get it live on the Internet within an hour of setting up a brand new domain and webhost account, although DNS propogation can sometimes be slower than this (Up to between 1 and 3 days sometimes).
    Best of luck!

well the answer to that question depends on what software you are using. if you are using frontpage you need to make sure you got frontpage server extentions setup on your web server. after that, when your looking at ur local website on frontpage, you click on view – remote website then upload it from there. if your using dreamweaver its a lil different. you use FTP. heres a tutorial how to set it up http://www.teacherclick.com/dreamweaver8…

You still need hosting service. If you just paid for a domain name, you have an address but no house!
The hosting service should provide you with FTP access to get your HTML files up. Personally I recommend 1and1http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=8875137
