I am trying to create an area where the teachers in my department (and maybe a few teachers I know from other schools) could share worksheets, PowerPoints, etc. that we have created to use in our classrooms.
I tried making a simple Google “group”. But they only allow you to upload files in one area and it’s in a list format. I want to be able to create folders for different topics and have the files upload to the folder to keep all the resources more organized. Also, there is a very small size limit (100 MB) and that will not be enough space.
I have my own domain hosted by hostmonster and so I played around with using simplescripts to create a pmwiki, tikiwiki, moodle and joomla but it takes a long time for me to set up one to “practice” with to see if it would serve my needs (I am a beginner and I can figure it out but it just takes me along time). I am hoping someone can save me some time by suggesting which of these would meet my needs the best or suggesting another thing I have not mentioned.
To recap and further explain what I would like:
- Have very large space available for the files
- Have folders available to organize the files to
- Have not just file upload but also “message board” type areas for discussing teaching ideas on different topics or links to youtube videos, etc.
- Privacy features (either password protected documents, invitation only access, or something of this sort so that students will not be able to find and open tests, quizzes, etc.

I recommend looking into creating an Office Live Workspace. You get 5GB of storage space, it works well with ppt’s and other common file types, it is highly organized, and you can assign read-only or edit privileges as you please.
Cheers,

You may want to post this again in the teachers areain YA.
A number of teachers answer questions and they can probably advise on how other people have done similar things
