Outgoing Mail Server (smtp) Issues?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-12-27   Tags: , , , ,

I already use my email account that came with my domain from godaddy.com with Thunderbird on my laptop, but i’ve had trouble setting it up with my iPhone’s mail app. I can successfully recieve email, but it brings up errors while sending. I have the exact same server information on both. Are you only allowed to use the smtp server on one application or something?

Some Internet Service Providers use a different port for out-going mail. You can check your ISP website for more info
In an attempt to control unsolicited email (spam), some Internet service providers block port 25. If you experience technical problems sending email, then
you need to use port 587 when sending SMTP server.
From the “Tools” menu, select “E-mail Accounts.”
Select “View or Change existing email accounts” and click “Next.”
Select your Yahoo! POP account and click the “Change” button.
    Next, click “More Settings.”
    Click the “Advanced” tab.
Next to “Outgoing server (SMTP),” change port 25 to 587.
Click “OK,” then click “Next” and “Finish.”
    Cheers
