Problems With Godaddy?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-09-13   Tags: , ,

Okay, so I have registered for a GoDaddy account, but for some reason can’t host my site there. I started with Windows Hosting, but later on, switched to Linux Hosting through the Hosting page. When I went to set up my Linux account, it said that my domain was still being used, so I went and canceled my windows hosting. When I went back to setup my Linux hosting account, it still said that my domain name was being used, and couldn’t set up my account. I came back an hour and a half later and I’m still getting the same error!!!
Does anyone know why this might be?
Thanks.

You don’t cancel a domain that way. You still own the domain and should have set up a 302 and then a 301 on the site you were leaving. I hope you didn’t have a good page rank as you just ruined it.
It will take some time for the servers to dump the name pointers for your old hosting site. Meanwhile, you can still buy the hosting package, use the Control Panel and set up the name servers yourself using what GoDaddy needs for your domain name.
You also may need to go and log into the Domain Manager and get your problems edited out. See:https://manage.opensrs.net/index?action=…

I would assume that this doesn’t apply to you, but I know that it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to take affect. Try clicking on the account plan to see if it says “Pending account changes”.
Also, GoDaddy’s support seems to respond quickly, and solves most problems. Perhaps you could try contacting them.
