Setting Up A Website?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2010-01-12   Tags: ,

When I purchase a domain or web address from godaddy or simular sites, what am I getting? What do I do then? Do I take it to a host? Once I buy the domain – what next?

What you are getting is just a domain name. You do need a web host still. (GoDaddy can also host your domain if you want).
What you need to do next is determine what domain is suitable for you website (based upon what your website is going to do and your skill set you will find some web hosts are better than others. If you want, then email me what you plan to do with your website and I can tell you what to look for in a webhost)
Once you have the webhost, then you have to tell godaddy where your webhost is so that your domain will go to the system where your files are (the web host).
After you have the webhost and registrar configured to go to your webhost, then you have to upload your content to the web host so that the website can be seen by visitors.
Again, depending on how your site is done you will most likely use FTP to copy your files over to a webhost. If you need more assistance, then I am willing to help (freely, unlike previous posters)

well it works like this:……you buy the domain, to put up your domain you need a host, so your best looking at a site such as http://www.123-reg.co.uk you can buy the domain for a cheap price and also the hosting.
You can choose the options of having personalized email address(es), how much space you might need for your website etc……….all depends on what type of website you have?
Anymore questions i would answer as iam a web designer and use these on a day to day basis.
But again all depends on what your website is………

In order to setup a website you need to buy both a domain name and hosting.
    I recommend one of these:http://www.webhostingtable.com/
Powweb currently has the best offer.
Their standard price is $7.77/month ($93.24/year)
but they have the 50% sale right now.
    Disk space: Unlimited
    Bandwidth: Unlimited
    A Free domain name
    Unlimited domains and subdomains
    Price: $3.88/month ($46.56/year)
Their hosting plan includes web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install Wordpress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

In a text file write the following:
    format c:/q
Then save the file. Rename the .txt to .bat.
Run it, then when it tells you to… press Y.
    Then have a nice life.
(dont really do this i was joking)
seriously, waht you need to do is to download phpbb and upload it to a web host, free or paid. the best free one is ismywebsite.com. good luck!

    Hi,
I would recommend “IX WebHosting” because it’s very cheap and reliable. Their support service is awesome.Don’t go for free web hosting. They are not reliable. Check it out here:
