Starting A Blog / Registering A Domain?

If you are on Dreamhost, they have an excellent one-click install of Wordpress.
Here are some of my notes.
On the dashboard, click on the Goodies.
Then select One Click Installs.
Select whether you want the easy or advanced install. I’d advise advanced.
Highlight the blue button on Wordpress then scroll down to the box “Install to” which is right under all the software products.
Fill in the website URL.
You will be creating a new data base, so scroll down to the section where it says create a new data base and fill in the box with the data base name, something that relates to the site.
Move down to the Host name and create a host, mysql.url will do.
Create the first user, something like myname, then the password.
Click Install this for me now.
You’ll get a notice of installation and the password. You’ll also get an email sent to you. Write down all the information and print the email.
Then login to the site and start to work.
This will take you to the dashboard for the site.
Take a minute or two to look around the site. You’ll notice the post area to the right and the control area to the left. There should be one post, “Hello World!” Click the delete for that post and then get rid of it. Write a post and then save it. Then view it. Look at the tage area and add some key words.
Move over to the control area and look for a theme you want to use. I use Barthelme, but you can use any theme you want. Select the theme, Activate it, and then view the site.
This will get you set up and running with Wordpress.
I’d suggest buying Teli Adlam’s “How to Build an Affiliate Website Using Wordpress.” This is a definitive guide to Wordpress, although she covers it from a downloaded program point of view. It’s the one and only source you’ll need, the rest is fluff.
I’d also suggest logging onto Grizzley’s make money for beginners blog. This is the real deal. He isn’t out to sell you anything, just provide you with a lot of great information and some good writing.
The people at DH are very helpful and responsive. I’ve been on Dh for almost two years and have had as many as 50 blogs up and running on WP. I have a link to my main blog below, the artisan bread site. That’s the Barthelme theme.

If you are registering your domain you need to get web space to host your domain. Get the web space which has fantastico as it makes you easier to install wordpress, joomla etc. Otherwise you have to manually install it (which is a little complicated). If you have fantistico you have to just click wordpress from the domain management control panel which will be provided to you by the hosting company. Wordpress does allow ads (adsense, sponsored ads). If you want any further help i can do it free contact arefrasool2004@gmail.com
