Transfering Domain, But Autherization Code Was Sent To A Proxy Address. What Does This Mean?

Okay so, I’m transferring my domain from dreamhost to hostmonster. The transition, seems to have gone smoothly but there’s an ominous message on the page:
An email has been sent to the email address mydomainname.net@proxy.dreamhost.com which is listed as the Admin Contact for the domain domainname.net. This email will contain a Verification Code that will help ensure that you are the owner of the domain name. The transfer cannot proceed without this code (this is a formal requirement from ICANN). This is separate from the EPP authorization code. Once you have obtained the code, please type it in the field above, and click “Continue”.
I have no idea where that address is. I was subdomain hosted by a friend, and my girlfriend bought me the domain as a gift. Now I’m on my own plan and I need to transfer it. It actually seems to have transferred, it is no longer on my dreamhost account and is listed under my host monster account… the site is working, but I’m not sure which version is up. I suppose I had better get that code somehow… but I don’t know how to access that address. Any help?

    The hosting companies took care of the “proxy address” stuff – this is normal everyday business to them.
    As far as what’s on the new site – you should ALWAYS have the most current version of the site on your computer as a backup (and another one on a flash drive isn’t a bad idea). Then you just upload that to the new site (FTP).
    Assuming you don’t have a local backup, connect to the old site via FTP and download all the files. (If they’re gone, at least download all the files from the new site now, so you have *some* backup.)

    We don’t actually see those emails. They are just forwards to whatever the Domain Registration contact is listed as on the account which owns the domain registration. We don’t see them, we don’t handle them, we don’t do anything with them. They go into the mail server and out to wherever they’re set to go.
