Transfering Your Own Domain?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-12-18   Tags: , ,

i have my domain a Godaddy, but i wan tto trasfer my domain www.domain.com to InMotion Hosting, can i just cancel the domain like, delete the damoin from go daddy, and then just create a new one with the same address in Inmoting Hosting,
So the question is, should i tranfer the domain?
or if delete it, will it take take time to register the new domain in the new host provider?
what should i do?
Or there is another way to do this?

You can transfer the domain name to your new host if it’s older than 60 days. If you registered it with Godaddy less than 60 days ago you can’t transfer it yet. That’s the rule for all registrars not just Godaddy.
Basically how transfer works, is that you enter your existing domain name in your new host’s form and initiate the transfer. Than you’ll be asked for a code which you can find in your Godady control panel and you’ll receive the email asking you to approve the transfer. And that’s it. Your domain name will no longer be registered with Goadddy, but with your new host, and one more year of registration will be added automatically.
P.S. I just checked Inmotion hosting. The cheapest plan you can get ($3.00/month) requires two years of prepayment and doesn’t offer a lot. I would recommend one of these: http://www.webhostingtable.com/
Powweb has the best offer right now. It’s on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), a free domain name (or transfer) included.

    Transfer the domain.
