I recently purchased a new domain. I set up hosting with BraveHost. I’m hoping to use the domain I purchased. When I try to add the external domain, it says it is already taken. I followed all the instructions, including the name server. What should I do?

I aint understanding your question. If you purchased a domain name, all you need do is open your domain name account and put in the url of the actual website.
