First off, I know this is a sort of rhetorical question ![]()
Basically my sites feel like they’re outgrowing Dreamhost and I’m considering a virtualized private server such as this:http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/
I’m just wondering how much the dedicated CPU and RAM will really improve performance. My sites are mostly blog-based and run pretty slowly on Dreamhost – posting comments, search, etc can drag and I’m worrying that it’s making a bad impression on users.
I’m assuming dedicated resources will greatly help the problem, but was hoping to find some sort of benchmark.
Thanks!

Yes you can buy a dedicated server web hosting from website like http://aplis.net/ .
Except your site has too many visitors, or your scripts is CPU-intensive, there is no reason that a normal blog site is slow on shared hosting plan.
Would you mind give some more info about your site? or your site url? You can email me if you prefer not publish it publicly.
If you feel a shared plan can’t fit your site, try a VPS, don’t go with dedicated directly, try VPS first. There are many good VPS plans, such as liquidweb, knownhost, etc. If you don’t have Linux experience, you may need more RAM to install a control panel (e.g. cpanel), 256M+ RAM is always suggested.
