Ok check this out.
1. First you buy a domain name through a registrar. And in that registrar’s control panel, you must assign what is called a nameserver. The “Nameservers” tell the registrar where the DNS server or account resides.
2. So the next step after getting a domain name would be to setup a hosting account. Buy a hosting account from a good hosting company like Netricks Web Hosting. Reliable and low cost.
3. Next, you must setup a DNS account, also known as a “ZONE.” DNS Zone files are often setup automatically when your website hosting company creates your hosting account for the domain you purchased. http://www.NetricksWeb.com does it for you. You can also use your own DNS server and manually create your DNS Zone.
4. The DNS Zone translates your web hosting IP address to the common names that we understand like http://www.domainname.com or whatever you chose.
5. Now when you manually edit a zone file, you can create various “A Records” which are the part of the Zone file that actually does the conversion from IP to common name. for example I can create a a record for “mail” and point it to ip xx.xx.xx.xx. Then I can create an MX record for domainname.com and point that to mail.domainname.com.
So in essence, when you type in mail.domainname.com, the DNS server will read “Mail” as being a part of the domain and pointing to the IP.
Hi
Yes I agree with netricks. You can check the DNS name resolving in the URL http://www.dnschart.com. Just put some domain name in DNS Records Text box and simply change the type. You can find the output.
