when you buy a domain name it is registered so no one else can use it. If your company does go bellyup you lose everything on the website except your domain name
you can look at http://networksolutions.com/whois to see when your domain name expire. Just go somewhere to renew before expire

This is going to be lengthly, so bear with me.
ICANN (icann.org) has a process to transfer management of domain names of a defunct registrar to another. Think of it like a bank taking over a defunct bank's accounts.
The catch here, though, is if the defunct registrar will cooperate. If the registrar didn't send commands to "lock up" domain names registered with them, some of them risk being deleted due to non-payment.
Bottom line, it depends on how soon intervention of the relevant parties kick in. The sooner, the better.
The "top" 3 registrars (Go Daddy, Enom/Bulkregister, Network Solutions) are in little to no danger of going bankrupt or stopping operations at all. The 1st has various competent people managing the business (and have little to no plans of selling thanks to their boss) while the other 2 have been acquired by venture capital firms.
Then there's the question, of course, of whether you registered your domain name with a REAL domain registrar or a RESELLER for one. If the latter goes bellyup, the registrar might have its own process of moving domain names from that reseller account to another upon review of all available details.
