I’m looking into launching my own digital product, and it will be in the form of 15 videos – these videos are between 15 MB and 50 MB each…
I’m looking into getting shared hosting through HostGator but I’m not sure that will be sufficient. I know it largely depends on how many people are downloading at one time…..do you think I’ll go over my CPU usage limit or Memory usage limit if say 10-20 are downloading these videos at a time? These will be in the form of ZIP files, so it won’t be streaming or anything.
To recap:
15 Videos.
Each between 15 MB and 50 MB each.
Should I go with shared hosting, VPS hosting, or get a dedicated server?
Anyone know of any solutions for these files?

Depends on how much traffic you expect. A shared hosting plan should be OK if your total monthly download is less than 10GB. More than that should be hosted on a dedicated server. VPS hosting would be overkill unless you expect a huge amount of traffic.
Your best bet is to start small, then add bandwidth/server space as needed (it’s just a phone call away). HostGator is a good hosting service, excellent customer service, middle of the road pricing, excellent uptime. There are other hosting companies that might be a better match, but it’s all about planning at this point – you’llneed to know what level of traffic you’ll get at first to know what service to go with – thinking ahead and looking at the hosting companies’ prices at higher service levels so you’ll know what you’re in for when your traffic starts booming.
As for CPU and memory usage, a shared hosting plan should be ok with a few videos at a time. Once you see the traffic trends, adjust as needed from there.
Hope that helps,
