It costs to register a domain name. There are some that do this very cheaply, but I’ve never heard of anyone that would register and host a domain name for free. Get out your wallet.
It is not free but it is cheep to register a domain – see http://www.register.com. The more expensive part is actually paying for “hosting”, which means storing your pages on someone elses server (machine) that is available 24×7 to anyone on the net (ie. not your own computer). There is an ability to use something called DNS To Go that allows you to setup your own computer as the hosting, but you have to a real propeller head to make this work and I would not recommend it. If you really want your own domain and web page, I would check out http://www.register.com to find a domain name you like (i.e. myname.com) and then check out register.com’s web page hosting product, which is cost effective and very good.
