When you register a website, you have to give the registrar a name, email, and address for them to send their billing to. This information is readily available to anyone by querying a WhoIs database – for example, the owner of Yahoo.com is :
Domain Administrator
Yahoo! Inc.
701 First Avenue
Sunnyvale CA 94089
US
For a company this is fine – it is usually the corporate address and on the site already. For an individual this would be a home address, meaning if someone didn’t like what you said on your site they can easily find your home to come ‘complain’ to you.
The Private Registration Service means that GoDaddy will put their name and address in these slots, and then forward any correspondence to your address. It is just an extra layer of anonymity for you to help protect you from online stalkers
