Where Do Domain Sellers Get Their Domains?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-10-16   Tags: , , , ,

What is at the top of this ladder? I buy a domain name from, say, GoDaddy, where do they get theirs? Is it just space on their servers, or do they buy it from some larger company? Is there a never ending chain of companies? Ok now I’m just being silly, but my question remains. Where do domain sellers get their domains to sell?

Definitly the best question I’ve seen today ;)
Here’s all you need to know:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icannhttp://www.icann.org/
It’s pretty much like the internet with the backbones, protocols and adresses.
They take care of all of that.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

they just pick a name that is not is use and register it to show its no longer in use, you need to be able to register domain names to be able to do this

GoDaddy is a registrar. They can add domains themselves.

The ladder goes up as GoDaddy and similar are only registrars, they are middlemen in this. The top would be ICANN, but there is no central database to list current working domain and stuff.
