Where Do I Start On Registering A Domain Name On My Own?

Category: FAQ   Time: 2009-07-05   Tags: , , , ,

Where do I start on registering a domain name on my own? I’m not asking for GoDaddy or any other domain registrars to register it FOR ME. I want to know where can I register/claim a domain directly. To try and make the question simpler, where or how does GoDaddy register domain names for people who want that available domain name?

You cannot register a domain on your own without an accredit ICANN accredited registrar.
If you want to become an ICANN-accredited registrar, you can take a look here: http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/accre...
But it is not easy; you must have US$70,000 in working capital requirements and insurance coverage of at least $500,000.
If you don’t have the budget and still want to sell domains, you can become a reseller for an ICANN accredited registrar.
For example, a site like http://www.JordanSoft.com is a Wild West Domain Reseller similar to GoDaddy. They are even cheaper than GoDaddy!
Start selling domains by becoming a reseller today, http://www.JordanSoft.net is offering the Wild West Domain Reseller at the minimum price.

    Hello,
ICANN is parent body for controlling domain reg. system.
All Domain provider registered with ICANN ( http://www.icann.org )
ICANN dont sell domain directly. If you want to be registrar yourself, you need to pass their few Technical and finacial tests.

You can start registering your domain names in Godaddy.com itself. Or you can find some of the registrant like dreamhost, bluehost similarly. Before you host a domain, decide in which platform you will be working? I mean you are running you site under LINUX or Windows.

go to verio.com. they are the 1st official company start to control all the domain registration. But for now, it is open to become an open market now. Verio is become the same as godaddy and the rest of domain registration company.

You can’t create new domain names without being a registrar. A domain name registrar is a company, accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) or by a national ccTLD authority, to register Internet domain names.

find a company that hosts your domain, the costs are usually $35 a month for basic hosting, and more if you are a business. search on Google for web hoster and it should get one

Simple, you can not register on your own. You must go through a registration company or service like http://domains.searchen.com where they act as the registrar for the domain.
