You are asking a couple questions here actually. One is which domain registrar should you use. The other is about a website, and for that you need a hosting company. They should not be the same company, simply because you don’t want all your eggs in one basket.
GoDaddy is an easy enough place to register your name if you can get past all the upsells as you check out. They’ll try to sell you everything but the kitchen sink. They’ll try to add on products. Make sure that you only buy the domain name registration. Godaddy is not the best registrar, but they are the largest, and the cheapest….if you use a discount code.
Just before the end of checking out, you will see a field asking for a promotion code or discount code. To get that, just search for “Godaddy discount code” on Google. Sites such as fatwallet.com keep up to date codes on their forum. That will save you a couple bucks.
So far as the website, there are tons of hosting sites such as HostGator and HostPapa that are very cheap but reliable. Use one of these hosts for your website, and just change the Name Servers (NS) at Godaddy to the address the host provides.
Keeping your domain name and website host at separate companies will make things much easier for you in the future if you run into any problems.
    Good luck.

Stuper’s response is right on. Godaddy offers the most affordable domain names along with special redirection services of domain names [forwarding with masking] options. To set up an ecommerce website, you may want to check out http://www.homestead.com which offers shopping cart and PayPal options starting at $10 per month [for hosting fees]. It’s a DIY website builder and is especially user friendly with many templates to choose from.
    Good luck!

Great prices with 99.9% up time guarantee. (no reputable company will say 100%) They also use some of the fastest DNS servers in the industry. Also make sure whoever you register with doesn’t hold your .com ransom! Their might be someone better years down the line. I’ve had friends who tried to switch and the domain register retained the domain name. With DCH you own the domain name and have full control.
