You have a legal problem... You seriously messed up by letting him register them. If you have someone go buy a car on your behalf, would you let them title it in your name? That's what you did here. If he won't turn them over willingly, your only choice is to go after him through the proper channels. And to win, you better be able to 1) be able to prove that he bought them in your name and was paid for it and/or 2) have enough money to outlast him in any long drawn out court battle (which winning will be based on part 1 unless you can out spend him to make him give up). Unless otherwise stated your ex-Designer would own the Domain. Depending on how you parted company, they may be willing to sell it back to you, or failing that it's the WIPO/NAF i'm affrad.
