Hello, I am thinking about starting a website. I am a celeb blogger (like Perez Hilton) & was wondering which service to go with.
I’ve read too many bad reviews about 1and1.com (my first choice) & GoDaddy.com (my second choice) & was wondering what other sites there are out there.
I don’t really want ads on my page unless they pay me & I don’t want to go with yahoo.

I have been hosting websites with Dreamhost for 3-4 years now and I still think it’s a great hosting service, even though it may be a little more expensive than other hosting services.
Some features I particularly like:
- unlimited hosting space & bandwidth + 50GB of space for backing up documents, folders, etc. from your personal computer if you want to use it
- online GUI interfaces to help you set up things like MySQL databases
- can set up your email addresses as Google accounts (works the same a Gmail account, but using your domain)
- custom DNS, allowing you to have greater control over things like email and creation of sub-domains
- you can create your own .htaccess files so you can setup password protection, custom error pages, etc.
- subversion support for version control of your files
One thing to be aware of, especially as someone new to websites, is that it costs an additional $10 a month for phone support. Basic Dreamhost support is through email, and though they respond almost immediately to your questions, if you’re the kind of person that needs to be talked through something rather than following a bulleted list, I would either break down and put down the extra cash or look elsewhere for hosting.
would recommend registering with JordanSoft, http://www.JordanSoft.com; it is a Wild West Domain reseller similar to GoDaddy. This reseller is cheaper than GoDaddy for most of the same products. Buying from http://www.JordanSoft.com or GoDaddy makes no difference in service, but you can compare prices to save you a few bucks.
For Domain Name registration:
.COM: $9.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com
.NET: $12.99/year on GoDaddy, $6.49/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com
.ORG: $14.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com
Stay away from 1and1.com:
- Extremely rude support, specially billing
- Email technical support almost non-existent.
- Phone technical support that do not understand technical issues.
- Locks your account with NO previous notice to the customer in several occasions.
- Highly difficult, bureaucratic and time-consuming to transfer domains out of there.
- Hidden charges on your credit card, you have to watch every detail.
- Pre-sale promises by phone that do not materialize after payment.
Search Google for two words: 1and1.com and hate
I registered my domain names with GoDaddy and have had excellent service with the. I don’t host my website with them, however; for that, I use http://www.000webhost.com. They don’t require (or even provide) ads on your pages, and they allow up to 200 MB of space (for the free service; I don’t remember the amount for the subscription service off the top of my head). I’ve found them to be a bit limited on the scripting languages they allow, but the service is only about $5 a month, and I’ve never had a downed site. Hope that answers your question!

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
